Welcome to the fun world of planning a wedding during a Covid pandemic. There might be a few hurdles but I promise we will get through this together!
Is it crazy to be planning an elopement during COVID?
No way! It’s awesome. We NEED to celebrate this year and we NEED to start our lives together. All the “rules” are being turned on their heads in 2021. Now is the perfect time to get married 100% your way… with no pressure and no drama. Elopements are the original social distancing way to tie the knot. And you will get to tell your grandkids that you got married during a pandemic!
That’s pretty bad ass.
How to get marriage license in NYC during COVID
So we need a license to officially marry you. NYC’s Marriage Bureau building has been closed since March and they have moved everything online to Project Cupid. We recommend that you apply for a license ASAP.
Don’t be alarmed if you do not get an appointment in the time frame you were hoping for. There is a backlog, BUT they release new appointments every Thursday morning and most of our couples have been able to score appointments in very very short time frames. You and your fiance will both need to be present in the same room for your virtual appointment. Once your appointment is done, you will immediately receive your license. You license is ready to use 24 hours after you receive it and is valid for up to 60 days.
Many couples have also been getting a license from outside of NYC (Long Island or Westchester.) For those offices, you will need your birth certificate. (In NYC you don’t need your birth certificate, only your ID.)
If you were planning to get married, lets say in the next 2 weeks, and cannot get your license for another month, DON’T WORRY! We will execute your paperwork when you get it and still go ahead and plan the elopement of your dreams on the damn day you WANT IT! You have made enough sacrifices this year… Let’s marry you, have a grand ol’ time and then do the paperwork at a later date over cocktails at our house aka the Covert Cocktail Club in Bushwick, Brooklyn!
How will we get around NYC during COVID?
Well riding the subways these days doesn’t have the same charm it used to! So here are a few transportation options:
Vintage 1960’s NYC Taxi
The taxi that will chauffeur you around was also used to drive Lady Gaga every night for her performances during the closing week at the Roseland Ballroom, FYI. It’s also the taxi from Home Alone and when Harry Met Sally. And this particular taxi comes with the kindest taxi driver known to man! Luck for you, he loves sharing his stories.
Cadillac Escalade with Driver
Kick back, relax, get driven around in style and comfort! Minimum booking is three hours and we can add as many additional hours as needed!
Uber
If you don’t mind walking a bit between locations, then we can always call an Uber to move from neighborhood to neighborhood.
What’s the difference between a micro-wedding and an elopement?
I get this question a lot. I have been interviewed by countless newspapers and magazines about eloping trends and the long and the short of it is, there is not one official definition. At Eloping is fun, this is how we define it:
- Elopement = Just you and your boo
- Micro-wedding = Anything above five guests (average is 15 guests)
We have seen the move towards micro-weddings for the past few years and have structured our planning process accordingly. I strongly believe in the importance that things run smoothly on the day so that you can just enjoy! We charge a mandatory micro-wedding fee with two options: 5-10 guests or 10-25 guests.
How do I book an elopement with Eloping is Fun?
I thought you would never ask! Once your decision is made to get married with Eloping is Fun as your dream team, it’s time to book it! You can work on building your dream package here. After you choose your photographer, officiant, and add-ons, I will send you an online booking proposal to seal the deal. We require a 50% deposit, but we can also offer flexible payment plans!
You don’t have to know yet where you want your ceremony. Perfecting and customizing the details for your wedding day is all part of our job and YES, if you decide later that you are gonna add that boudoir session or the ceremony video, we can always add them on.
