Solving the Closet Crisis: Meet the Founders of Glow Fashion Boutique
Fashion Featured Women Who InspireHave you ever felt like you had nothing to wear, even with a closet full of clothes?
Sisters Danielle and Rebecca Peplinski were very familiar with this problem, and were inspired to found their company Glow Fashion Boutique to help women build a wardrobe they could count on. Their Classic Capsule method has been the foundation of their business, which has continued to evolve and help thousands of women transform the way they dress while encouraging them to shop sustainably.
We spoke with the Peplinski sisters to get a better idea of how Glow Fashion Boutique was started and has continued to be successful, with over 350K followers on TikTok. Rebecca has a background in design, while Danielle has a background in fashion buying and merchandising. Their combined knowledge makes them the perfect dynamic duo, and they’ve managed to grow their business while raising their combined seven children.
What is the Classic Capsule Method?
The classic capsule method is a more sustainable way to buy clothes. Currently, the fast fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors to environmental crises like climate change, plastic pollution, and water pollution. With ever changing trends, people fill their closets with this season’s latest styles, only to have them go out of style in a few months. Resulting in those clothes being tossed in the garbage to fill up landfills.
The capsule method changes this. Despite being around since the 1970’s, the capsule wardrobe concept has only recently started to grow in popularity with the help of businesses like Glow Fashion Boutique and social media platforms.
Rather than buying clothes based on trends, shoppers using the capsule wardrobe method look for timeless pieces that compliment one another. This allows you to wear your clothes longer and easily mix-and-match outfits from a smaller selection of clothes.
Before starting Glow Fashion Boutique, Danielle and Rebecca built their own capsule wardrobes and noticed that it was an absolute game changer.
“It changed the way we shopped, the way we viewed our style and getting dressed, all while saving us time & money. That was really the fuel for opening our boutique, sharing this system with other women.”
Just like any new business, the Glow Fashion Boutique didn’t find success overnight. It took the two sisters years to really find their audience. Along the way, they wavered from their original business model without realizing it, in hopes of reaching new customers.
As the world shut down due to the pandemic, Rebecca and Danielle had an opportunity to reflect on their brand.
“We didn’t stay true to our business and who we were as entrepreneurs. During the lockdown in 2020, we knew we had to get back to our roots. Lesson learned – always stay true to who you are and what you believe. Authenticity is key.”
Refocusing on their roots, they began using TikTok to teach people how to build their own essentials capsule wardrobe. And people loved it. Now, they have almost 350,000 followers on TikTok and over 18,000 on Instagram. Their videos are inspiring women everywhere to build a wardrobe that represents their style in a sustainable way.
When they reflect on their journey of building an audience and rediscovering their roots, the two sisters shared the lessons they learned.
Their advice to their younger selves? They said to expect obstacles; in fact, anticipate them.
“The one thing that will set apart a successful business from a failed business is your unwillingness to give up. Learn from the setbacks…there’s always a takeaway.”
They also shared with us the importance of remembering to enjoy the process.
“No one is an overnight success, so get comfortable with the ups and downs. Even at the hardest moments, we still look back fondly because we love what we do and we love doing it together.”
Given their success in building a brand they’re passionate about, we asked the Peplinski sisters what their advice would be for the AskYourGirls community. Their message is to value community over competition.
“There’s enough room for all of us…support other small businesses, new businesses, and entrepreneurs. We get it and we know the challenges that come with it, so let’s encourage & support each other.”
The story behind Glow Fashion Boutique is one we can all learn from and admire. Not only have Rebecca and Danielle succeeded in building a successful brand, they’re teaching the world how to live more sustainably without giving up your sense of style.
