If you’re a lover of full bodied wines – Syrahs, Cabernet Sauvignons, Malbec, Grenache or Mourvedre’s, Paso Robles is the perfect place to go.
Review of Restaurants:
- La Cosecha – Good value, great food. Good cocktails.
- Spearhead Coffee – Best Coffee in Town!
- PasoTerra Restaurant – French restaurant. Reminds me of France. The portions are small but my favorite in town. Authentic French food with great flavor and perfection to each dish. A must try!
Recommendations on Wineries:
- Caliza Winery – for a very refined palate and expensive taste ($60 plus), this was a very good winery. Their Grenache was our favorite.
- Allegreto – Very perfect resort if you’re looking for a hotel to stay at. They have their own private winery. You must try the Tannat. It is amazing if you like Cabernet Sauvignons and Syrahs. It is a beautiful tasting wine and their wine club only asks for 8 bottles per year for a 15% discount with other perks. We had thought the perks as written on website meant we could use pool and other facilities of hotel. Unfortunately, if you’re a wine club member you only get to use all areas of the hotel not directly accessible by key card. But no matter, the wine was delicious and worth the buy. The owner was going to change the language of the website since it seemed to imply you had resort access by being wine club member. Still the Tannat is worth the buy!
- Calcerous – Beautiful vineyard, panoramic views and great wines. The wines match. They are good! They range from $50-$65. The Syrah is a must-try. As we came during COVID, food menu limited, but the service and wines and views were great.
- Austin Hope and Hope Family Wineries – If you’re a lover of Cabernet Sauvignons that are fruit forward, sweet and smooth, this is the perfect place. You’ve probably seen Austin Hope sold at your local stores since its wine has continued to be rated AS #10 OF TOP 100 WINERIES OF THE WORLD. I loved this wine so much that I became a WINE CLUB member. What does that mean: 20% OFF your wines and a commitment to 12 bottles for the first year. After the first year, you can decide to continue or discontinue membership. It’s worth it. Their Cab Sauvignon is the most popular. Here’s a story behind how their wines and estate is built on a family story. The vibe of the winery is very friendly and the outdoor cabanas very relaxing: Find out more about Austin Hope Family Wines by Travel & Leisure here.
As a sum-up, great romantic get-away, great Girls Trip and a mini-version of Napa Valley. 3 hours North of Los Angeles, CA. It’s a good road trip for anyone in Southern California.
